Fraud Alert: Scam Text Messages Claiming DMV Penalties -

We have been made aware of fraudulent text messages being sent to individuals claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the court system. These messages often state that the recipient owes penalties or fees related to traffic violations or DMV infractions and may include a link or phone number to resolve the matter.

Take these steps to reduce the chances of falling victim to a text message scam:

  • Never respond to unsolicited or suspicious texts — If you receive a message asking for personal or financial information, do not reply.
  • Verify the source — If you are unsure, always contact the DMV through official channels.
  • Call the DMV if you have concerns — The DMV customer service team is available to help you at 800-777-0133.

Craig M Goodman v Charles B Butler – 24CV03667

This is a demurrer by Defendant to the self-represented Plaintiff’s complaint. This action is related to a small claims case, case No. 24CV03666. The demurrer was filed on October 16, 2024. The demurrer was served electronically on Plaintiff on October 16. As served, the demurrer notices a hearing on the demurrer for November 20, 2024. On October 17, 2024, the Court entered its order on the ex parte application of the Defendant to advance the hearing on the demurrer to this date of October 30.

Ruling: On 10/17/2024 the Court Granted the request to advance the Defendants Demurrer to 10/30/24. But no response has been filed by Plaintiff and the Court is unable to reasonably rule on the demurrer. The Court continue the hearing on the demurrer back to its original date of November 20 and orders that the opposition be filed and served when required by Code of Civil Procedure section 1005, subdivision (b).
