Fraud Alert: Scam Text Messages Claiming DMV Penalties -

We have been made aware of fraudulent text messages being sent to individuals claiming to be from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or the court system. These messages often state that the recipient owes penalties or fees related to traffic violations or DMV infractions and may include a link or phone number to resolve the matter.

Take these steps to reduce the chances of falling victim to a text message scam:

  • Never respond to unsolicited or suspicious texts — If you receive a message asking for personal or financial information, do not reply.
  • Verify the source — If you are unsure, always contact the DMV through official channels.
  • Call the DMV if you have concerns — The DMV customer service team is available to help you at 800-777-0133.

Tentative Ruling

Probate Notes:

Appearances required.

After supplement filed on June 27, 2024, the following is noted for the Court:

On December 4, 2024, an Order to Deposit Funds Into Blocked Account was issued and filed.  There have been five (6) hearings on that matter in an effort to confirm that the $1,172.44 paid to the minor in this case, was deposited into a blocked account.

At the June 3, 2024 hearing, the Court issued an Order To Show Cause why sanctions of $100 per day should not issue for failure to file the Acknowledgment of Receipt of Order and Funds For Deposit In Blocked Account (MC-356) attesting to compliance with the Order to Deposit Funds Into Blocked Account.  There is still no Receipt and Acknowledgment on file, because of what appears to be an issue with confirmation from the bank.

However, while Petitioner submitted a receipt of deposit to a Chase bank account, Petitioner has not proven that the account is blocked. The Court should request some other confirmation of the funds being in a blocked account until the bank can do so by executing the MC-356.

If that confirmation is not submitted at or before the hearing, the Court should issue sanctions to the Guardian ad Litem/Petitioner of $100 per day until the either an account statement showing blocked status is filed, or a Receipt of Order and Funds For Deposit In Blocked Account (MC-356) is filed.

Appearances:

The court is open to the public for court business. The court is also conducting hearings via Zoom videoconference.
