Jury Scam alert -

The Santa Barbara Superior Court has received complaints about individuals trying to scam members of the public by pretending to be court officers or officials. The Jury Services office of the Santa Barbara Superior Court does not call citizens to request payments for failing to appear for jury duty. California law does not permit citizens to pay a fine in lieu of jury duty. If you receive such a call simply hang up and, if the scammer persists, call your local law enforcement agency. The following deficiency persists:

Declaration of Third Party. In order for the court to rely upon the allegations in the application, the applicant must 1) show how the facts stated on the certificate of marriage are in conflict with evidence related to that fact, and 2) file a declaration under the penalty of perjury from at least one other “credible person” with personal knowledge of the conflicting facts. (Cal. Hlth. & Saf. Code, § 103225.)

The Petition requests that the Petitioner’s first name be changed from Tifany to Tiffany. A separate Petition for a name change is required to change the spelling of Petitioner’s first name.

The court understands that the Petitioner wants to proceed with the correction to the marriage license without the change to the spelling of her first name.
